Some Geocaching Perl Scripts and Programs
If the weather is good, I spend a lot of time geocaching, preferably
on my mountainbike. If it is pouring, I write some
Perl scripts:
- Geolog can be used to generate your own
website and your own statistics from Pocket queries (some plugins to generate additional
statistics can be found here). In addition, you can also download all your pictures and incremental updates of your caches and logs.
- Ocprop uploads geocaching information to the opencaching.de website and downloads information about OC-only caches and logs in order to integrate them into the Geolog database.
- Geoupdate does not help
support your
geocaching activities, but it eases the installation and update of the programs
above. When called, it will tell you what versions are available
and then download them. As usual, it is available as a Perl script
and as a Windows program.
The programs/scripts are all licensed under the GPL.
The development versions of these scripts can be found
in the sourceforge
svn repository. Active developers are currently HSCA and Fogg. If
you are interested to contribute, please contact us.
For those of you who run Windows and do not want to install a Perl
interpreter I also created EXE files
(using perl2exe)
that can be run as stand alone
applications (from the command line). Geolog and Ocprop have been extended so that they also can be started with a double click from the desktop.
